World view and Sustainable Development Religious and Cultural Values in Environmental Strategies.

Christian J. Jäggi, Dr. phil.
Sven Kaufmann, lic. phil.

"We hope to show that environmentally responsible action can be intensified and reinforced by means of ecological world views." Christian Jäggi

Goals

First we intend to gain insights into the relation between world views (traditional and modern) and ecological ways of acting. Secondly, we wish to discover the extent to which ecologically responsible action can be furthered by means of transformations in world views.

Questions

  • What relations exist between ecological world views and environmentally responsible action?
  • What relations exist between basic religious values and ecologically responsible action?
  • Are there significant relations between ecological world views and religious convictions?
  • What is the influence of personal biography upon the development of a coherent ecological world view?

Methods

The project is being conducted above all by means of written questionnaires. The questionnaires are designed to reveal the relations between world view and ecologically responsible action. The focus is upon persons who are currently or were at one time involved in the "Global Action Plan" or who are members of the "Beaulieu Movement". As a supplement to the questionnaires persons belonging to various environmental groups or organizations will be interviewed. In addition to this a control group will also be investigated.
